Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design
A simple idea that lead to award winning designs over a number of years.
The design
Sunil Vishin, the Director of OpenBoxDesign worked as a part-time visiting lecturer in the Interior and Environmental Design department at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design – this was in 1996. At the end of the year the graduating students put on their degree show and Sunil was commissioned to work with the students to produce an unusual invitation.
This invitation was a three dimensional card that folded flat into an envelope but opened up to reveal the concept of Interior and Environmental Design as well as show an indication of the Students’ work.
That was the beginning
This first card went on to win a number of awards and for seven more years seven invitations were produced for each of the graduating groups. Each card continues the concept but each one is completely individual. Other cards in the series went on to win or be finalists in other awards and a selection of the work is shown here.
OpenBoxDesign love these cards and loved the process of working with students who gave their excellent input for each one. The concept – of a three dimensional invitation has now been translated into our new venture of three-dimensional greeting cards – many of which can be seen in the OpenBoxDesign’s greeting cards section of the website.
